One Year Reflection: Embracing Growth and Change at DWM
A lot can happen in a year. We’ve shared laughter, worked through moments of sadness, and experienced challenges and even grief. The full range of emotions—honestly, not to sound cliché, but joining DWM has truly felt like becoming part of a family. Marie, our senior advisor, and her family have welcomed me wholeheartedly; together we’ve built the dream team and we are proud of it!
When I joined DWM, I was at a crossroads in my career. With both a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Kinesiology, plus years of experience as an administrative assistant at Desjardins, I still wasn’t sure if financial advising was for me. Fast forward a year, and I’ve now found my footing as a licensed financial advisor.
Since joining, I’ve gained a whole new level of confidence in wealth management that goes far beyond the administrative work I was familiar with. This experience has empowered me to challenge myself, express myself, and actively pursue my goal of becoming a financial advisor alongside Marie.
I am thankful for the opportunities and experiences that have come with joining DWM. Over the past year, I’ve dedicated myself to growth and training, earning both my mutual fund license and my life and health insurance licenses for the province of Alberta. I’ve expanded my role as Executive Operations Manager while also embracing the more pivotal and exhilarating responsibilities of my new roles of Investment Fund Advisor and Life & Health Insurance Advisor, guiding clients through essential wealth management strategies that make a difference in their lives.
The knowledge I’ve gained in such a short time has been immense. What would typically take years, I’ve learned under Marie’s mentorship and guidance in just months. This accelerated learning was partly due to unforeseen circumstances, but it’s taught me that adaptability is essential. I’ve learned that life is anything but predictable—embracing change and reaching for your true potential can lead to unexpected rewards.
Reflecting on this past year, it feels like many years’ worth of growth have passed in the best way possible. Time has flown, yet I’ve savored each step along the way. I’m proud of where I work, what I do, and the team I work with. This journey has been transformative, and I’m genuinely excited for what lies ahead.
