Losing a Key Member of the Office

The recent loss this year, of Sylvia, a vital member of our family and collaborative team, has been a profound shock. We never anticipated her passing at such a young age, especially when she was so close to enjoying her well-deserved retirement from the accounting industry, filled with travel and family time.

In our office, we regularly discuss and plan for life’s opportunities and uncertainties— involving money management, investments, retirement, insurance, and death. We even discuss and plan during family functions and holidays! However, when loss strikes close to home, the impact is staggering. The emotional turmoil of grief intertwines with the practicalities of wealth management, creating a dual reality where I am both an advisor and a grieving family member.

This past year has been particularly challenging for all of us at the DeLauretis office and for the family. However, despite these recent challenges, we are comforted in the thought that together, throughout our years as a family and operating our respective businesses, we successfully planned her wealth strategies to help her accomplish the financial goals that mattered to her most and ensured a smooth transition of her estate.

Sylvia’s unexpected passing, as we planned it to be much later (like most of us do), underscores the critical importance of not only wealth building but financial security protection and effective succession planning. Her legacy continues to teach us invaluable lessons and guides us forward, highlighting the necessity of being prepared for the unforeseen.

This Thanksgiving weekend, take a moment to revisit your family’s financial goals, reflect on what truly matters most and explore how you can accomplish these goals together. Don’t forget to include your lead financial advisor in future family discussions.

Heartfelt blessings to you and your family this Thanksgiving weekend. May the memory of this weekend fill you with comfort and joy for years to come.
